First cut in 1780, the Cherhill White Horse is one of eight visible figures in Wiltshire. Its creator, Dr Christopher Alsop from the nearby town of Calne, was dubbed the "mad doctor" and reportedly directed the construction from a distance, barking orders through a megaphone.
